I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the alternator but before I start ripping into parts I do not need to risk breaking, what exactly do I need to clean?

When I turn my turn signals on my head light and my cluster lights dim.

sounds like your getting to much draw from the battery as like you said your alternator, what i was told to check is the alternator brushes, just inside the housing below your petcock, im sure someone else may chime in as well and give you more info, butthe brushes should measure 10 mm to be effective.

First fully charge the battery see if the problem persists.
If this clears it up it's a charging issue.
With the bike above 3000rpm. check to see if you have 14.5v across the battery.
If not, this points to the alnernator, probably just brushes.
If you do have 14.5v, take the battery to the parts store and have them load test it.
    The battery may be shot.
A place to start that costs you nothing.

Poor connections in the headlight bucket or fuse box could also be the problem.

    Check the Alternator Brushes.
Pull the Round Cover to the left of the Starter.
    3 Allen Cap Screws
    Remove the Cover.
    L@@K inside the Cover.
Those two Carbon Posts are the Brushes.
If they aren't 10mm long ... you need new ones.

Also check your ground wire for corrosion.
