So i've got a minor problem, i'm about to put the studs back into the case and i see there is one different one (aside from the 4 that go on the corners).

Now, on the block i can only see one hole that is different, but it doesn't make sense to me that it would go there cause the threads come all the way to the face of the block instead of having a small gap between the end of threads to the face.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

looked up in haynes, but it never shows or describes the refitting of those studs...

    No word about different shapes.

You might want to take a look at the mating part?? it might have a hole mating that shape

I just looked up the part numbers and i'm a bit confused. it shows 5 different part numbers and from what i can tell i have 3 different studs. i'm guessing that the one stud i was in question about is for alignment purposes. Perhaps it does go in the hole that is threaded to the face so it can stop when it hits the "bump" in the stud. Any ideas??

Look in the picture on the upper far right threaded hole , it looks like there should be a dowel there. I think that the screw with the unthreaded section might go there????

i know it doesn't go on any of the 4 corners because they have longer studs. i'm guessing it goes in the circled hole in the last pic but i need to confirm.

I was just messing with my engine studs and I can tell you I seen this particularly different stud on the intake side of the engine, in towards the center. I can't remember the position exactly but I do recall noticing it was different. Hope this helps.

That indicated hole looks like someone installed a "Time-sert".

it doesn't actually look like it when you can see it clearer... it looks like a clean threaded hole in the case with a minor (not as much as the other holes)... i guess you might call it a counter bore? it does look factory though, no insert as far as i can tell.

Okay - I had a look at this on my turbo. It is intake side, 3rd stud in from the left when sitting on the bike.

Awesome! thank you for clarifying that for me.

Now does the longer threaded end of the stud go into the case? or does it go up?
