We'll start with an "Is this even feasible"

One thing I wanted to do before I call it "ride-able" was swap the head on my bike. Not a big deal, normally. ~100-150 for the head, plus gaskets, valve job, etc.

    BUT

    I found a local ad for 2 -82 XJ650s for 700$.
    One runs, great!
One does not - NON YICS.
Both have clean titles. woohoo! Project bikes! And more of my Income for Chacal this fall!

The major point starts here --

Is it possible to swap a NON-YICS head onto a YICS motor?
    What are the complications?
I don't have things in front of me right now..
If its even possible, I'd imagine at least that the carburetors are probably different?
    Since they use different manifolds?

Let me know...tell me I'm being dumb.

I'm just excited to potentially be able to have 3 running XJ's - 2 of which I can donate to friends for the trips to the "world's Largest" for the forum!

I hate to be the one to break this to you but--- no.

The YICS passages themselves are in the top rear of the cylinder block, and connect to the passages in the head.

YICS is all in the head and cylinder castings; the head and cylinder have to match. They use different manifolds because of how the attachment bolts are oriented, not (directly) because of YICS.

Aha, I assumed; I was just hoping I was wrong by some magic.
    Thanks Bigfitz.
Found a MORE local ad with 2 650s, and a 750 for sale...
    All YICS.

Gonna have a list under my name like some of you guys.

Still love your 550 Seca more than any of the Maxims I have, though. I'll have to find one next year and fix it up proper, like you did.
