Greetings. I have a stock headlight mount for my 82 xj750. It requires 2 bolts to mount it to the frame. Does anyone know what size these bolts are?

    The mount is this one:

i promise i'm not asking all these questions without searching and digging through guides, but i cannot find the bolt size anywhere. guess i will just buy a universal bolt kit and find something that fits.

    Not specified in the fiche.

Likely to be M6-1.0. Just under 1/4. If a 1/4" bolt (or drill bit) won't slide through the hole it's M6. If a 1/4 bolt will fit it's probably M8-1.25. By the way, I think you can start a 1/4 bolt in the hole - if you do you'll bugger the threads.

    On your own for length.

A lot of the fasteners on the motorcycle are M6-1.0. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have an assortment on hand. Also nuts, washers and lock washers.

    Here's a link to a good fiche: http://www.yamahapartshouse.net/oempart ... ycle/parts

If you check the fiche, you'll see that the mounts consist of a rubber grommet that goes in the loop on the bracket, a metal sleeve that goes thru the grommet, and a bolt w/washer that goes inside the metal sleeve.

So on the same topic, there is no way to easily find the specs on a screw or bolt once we've identified the OEM part number, correct?

Not really; at least not one I'm aware of.

I get a lot of mileage out of the torque spec chart in the FSM when it comes to identifying bolts.
