OK, I was reading in the Yamaha Service manual, and it says that there is a relay to stop the headlight from lighting when I am starting the cycle. My headlight always comes on. I was thinking of putting in an on/off switch to keep her off unless it was night. Do all of the XJ's headlights stay on when starting?

Yes, the headlight comes on when the engine is going fast enough for the alternator to generate enough voltage to operate the relay. I connected the ground from my headlight through the engine kill switch so I can use it to turn off the light.
