Health and Safety

I am seeing more people joining this site with these great but old bikes with the intent of repairing and restoring or modifying their scoots.While this is great and I applaud and support your efforts let me please remind people to think about safety and the health of yourself and those who may be around you. Health and safety precautions are(should be) obvious with liquid chemicals, but how many of you think about dry substances?
I have seen several recent posts about blasting parts clean but no mention of needed safety precautions. If you are using or plan to use any type of blasting please rig up a tent of some kind to contain the waste media and dust to keep it from going all over the neighborhood.
Also, PLEASE PROTECT YOUR LUNGS. For most media like corn cob, sand, baking soda, or glass a single stage respirator is fine.
If you are going to use Walnut shells-you must remove all facial hair and use a TWO STAGE respirator is recommended. The dust from walnut shells is TOXIC and can cause sever lung irritation.
Eye protection is a must as well as skin protection as most media can and will bounce back and can be quite painful.
I apologize for the long post but thought it necessary to remind people to think about safety while relaxing and working on their rides.
