I installed a set of heated grips on my 82 XJ550R Seca. The unit comes with an on off switch but I'd like to wire it into a circuit that is controlled by the keyed ignition on the bike so if I accidentally forget to shut the grips off I won't drain the battery. Is there any circuit that runs into the headlight housing that I could splice into?

    Thanks

You really should use a fused relay that is tied in to the main circuit at the fuse block (upgrade the fuse block as well). The relay will then only be able to be live when the ignition, and the heated grip switch are both on. That will also provide a dedicated circuit for the grip heaters so as to avoid an electrical fire.

Thanks for the advice k-moe. I wired it up using a relay like use suggested, I triggered it off of the rear brake light and at it worked flawlessly.

I hope you mean that you powered the relay from the brake light circut, and not that you are triggering the relay with it. That'd make you have to ride the brake in order to warm your hands up.
