Hello, I'm LaughingRav3n and I have just come into possession of these two bikes my father unfortunately passed away. He was an avid rider and he owned a Seca Turbo for the longest time I'm hoping to restore the two bikes, I also have some genuine Yamaha service manuals for the XJ650 LJ/LK and the supplementary for the XJ650LJ as well as some parts that I could identify I would love to upload more but it appears that the forum board keeps flagging my post as spam when I attempted to upload more pictures. Regardless I hope there is someone local around the Kitsap area who might able to take a look and give me a rundown on where to start.

    Thanks,
    LaughingRav3n

    Ahh that makes sense.
So it appears my dad after someone stripped his XJ650 for parts when the old neighborhood went to shit bought this Silver XJ650 to replace his bike so I don't believe it was ever running unfortunately I think it was someone's project car it doesn't appear that the key fits the gas cap or the key slot on the right side of the bike near the saddle, it does however fit the ignition, glove compartments and the left side of the saddle. But at the very least I need to get papers for both bikes my dad stowed them somewhere and they have since been lost otherwise I locksmith probably won't touch either bike.

So update went out to look at the bike today, figured I'd check the battery and gas tank to see if I can get some juice to check electrical and maybe do a compression test to see if the motor is good, I obviously have two bikes and I'm just trying to figure out where my father was at in this project. But to my annoyance I found the helmet lock is how to remove the seat but I don't have a key for it nor the gas cap. At this point I've got to look at replacing all the cores so that way one key opens if anyone has any suggestions for removing the gas cap and helmet lock it would be appreciated. once I remove them I can get some wafer pins and repin the cylinders to match the rest of the key rather than replacing the entire core.

You can try knocking out the hinge pin on the gas cap to remove it. Not sure how to remove the seat lock.

Thanks, after taking a look I am not sure what your referring to, my gas cap doesn't have a hinge at least one I could see.

Regardless I ordered a set of wafer lock rakes and a tension tool to hopefully pick all the locks, once they are open I can re-pin them I just got to hope I have enough spare wafers from the other locks to rekey them for the key I have otherwise I'll have to take them to get rekeyed I did find a great article over on the XS forum boards when I was looking around about rekeying wafer locks on Yamaha bikes. I'm just hoping I have enough wafers from my spare parts to rekey the one bike properly. From a Original Manufacturer standpoint does anyone know if the XJ650 Seca Turbo came with two keys? One for the ignition and one for the gas cap or was it a one key to open them all type of deal?

You mean to say the gas cap is to be totally removed from the tank when unlocked? It wouldn't flip up toward the back?

Sorry to hear about your loss, it really is hard losing one or both of your parents.

The locks on these bikes are very easy to pick. For $20.00 or close to it, you can have a kit sent to your door.

Normally an unmolested bike, the one key will fit all the locks. But as time moves on and things are replaced, there might be more than one key needed.

Keep posting to get them five posts and then we need more pics please.

Thanks, Yes it appears so it looks like it just is a free screw gas cap. Once I'm done with this post I'll post some in the following post since the limit should be removed.

Here is a picture of the gas cap:

As you can see the tires are dry rotted, it looks like the bike is put together though there were a lot of plastic bags stuffed in a bunch of various openings

Various Parts, there are lot more parts that appear to be for engine or carb stashed away in a bunch of Oil Boxes:

    Manuals I found:

2nd Bike (Probably used for parts but intend to restore if if I don't need to pull from it for donor parts:

If you would like to see any more pictures let me know I'm just waiting on the lockpick set to show up and then I'll at least be able to get something going on the bike when I'm able to rekey it all to one key.
