So being this is my first bike, exactly how does this helmet lock work on the side of the bike ? I do know for a fact the key i have does work the helmet lock and the chain on the side as well, which is a plus, just need to learn to figure out how to use it.

Any pics or videos would be great, but just someone with details on it would work too. thanks

On the 550s, you turn the key counterclockwise (CW opens the seat) and the little squareish wire loop pops out. You slip your helmet's D-rings over the wire loop, and push the end of it back into the housing to re-lock it. I'm sure yours works in a similar fashion, except maybe for which direction you turn the key.

yes, just seems like the helmet is hanging down, and it would just get in the way and , just seems like a poor design for a helmet but yep, i did figure it out.

I recommend you never use those helmet 'locks' to hold your helmet. Did that once on my bike and when I came out someone had snipped through the soft metal and stolen my helmet. My $500 Shoei was gone just like that!

Yamaha never intended for you to ride the bike with a helmet hanging from the lock.
