    Hey Everybody.
I need to replace the battery...and I'm having a hard time finding info on how to remove it from the bike.
If I just go to town on it...I'm gonna break something.

    1980 xj650.

Any help, resources, or advice is appreciate.
    Thanks!

On the right side of the bike there is a cover, it pulls straight toward you for removal.
With the cover off you will see the battery. There are two bolts that hold the cables onto the battery; remove them. There is a rubber strap that holds the battery into the battery tray; remove it. The battery can now be rotated out (you have to rotate it some in order to clear the frame). Instilation is the reverse of removal. BE sure to disconnect the negative cabel first, and install it last.

K-Moe, can you post any pictures? I tried to do as you mentioned on my 82' XJ 650 Seca and I didn't make any progress.

Are you saying that you pulled the right side cover and did not see the battery?
What is it that you mean by not making progress?

Thanks everyone. That's exactly what I needed. I was trying to pull on panels inside the compartment under the seat to no luck.
