1985 Yamaha xj700n I have cleaned carbs 3 times and each time I have to use starter fluid and place bike in choke to start and it stops running after start fluid has burned off .the two outermost carbs. have empty float bowls.when last cleaned used compressed air and blew air threw hose from fuel tank and felt air being blown through all four fuel inlets in each float bowl. Used compressed air and blew threw all jets and all holes in carb body and always felt air coming from another hole in carb body. Took jets out and could see prick of light.Re-assembled carbs and re-installed on bike. Again no start. Please help

Are you setting the petcock to PRI and allowing the float bowls to fill before attempting to start?
Are you using the choke lever?

Exactly how were the carbs cleaned?
There are a few rubber parts that should not be soaked in carb cleaner (spraying down is fine, but soaking is not).

    Edited for RIF

If you’ve got some bowls with fuel in them and some without then you’re dealing with float needles that are either stuck, in need of replacement, or in need of a float reset

    Setting the fuel levels
Measuring the float height will get you close, but not guarantee that the fuel level is correct.
    Wet-set on the bench.

What exactly do you mean by wet set on a bench?
