Senior moment, its been 6 months since I took the carbs off. There are four small vent hoses that face down and exit near the clutch cable, however there are two larger vent hoses that I cannot for the life of me remember how they were routed.

One of the vent hoses is located beside the fuel inlet hose, it exits towards the top of the carbs but I believe that it is supposed to be routed sharply down between the carbs. The second large hose is located between #3 and #4, it will face up or down. I think that they both supposed to exit down, and hang above the starter.

I've looked through the shop manual and Haynes, but cannot find a representative photo.

Can someone with a 900 please comment before I put the boots back on the carbs. My bike still has all the stock parts, Mikunis, air box etc.

    Thanks, Dave

Just a shot in the dark here as I'm not sure how much the 900 compares to my 750.

There will be 4 vacuum taps on the intake boots themselves. 3 of these will be plugged off. the 4th (#3 cyl) was used to activate the vacuum control fuel shut off.

Then there will be four small taps on the bottom of the float bowls. These are for the fuel drain hoses.

There should be one that is approx 2-3 times the dia that is routed back to the air box as a vapor recovery. According to the parts diagram on Bike Bandit. this should be the tap between the 1-2 cyl. in front of the fuel inlet.

I am not certain on the last one. This should be some kind of case vent.

Like I said. Just a shot in the dark.

Maybe Fitz can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

    Hope this helps.

I'll try to take a pic for you tomorrow if I can get in close enough.

Hey, if you are in the USA, could you please contact me privately (PM me) so that I can get your bike registered onto the 1983 XJ900RK Seca Database.

    Thanks,

    Dave Fox

Mr. Fox, its a Canadian bike, I'm in Ottawa, there are pics of the bike from earlier posts. Wizard, thanks for the info, I had another look and it seems that they do sit on top of the air box, pointing to the rear of the bike. Sound correct?

Ok, thanks. Hey, since there's already a pic of the carb set, I won't clutter up the bandwith with another unless you need to see a carb rack in place.
