Hi again im at a loss went out a week ago to move the wee xj600 3KM about the yard as i still can't ride but the clutch would not disengage thought with it siting a while the plates might have stuck together so looked through the forum and followed this thread https://www.xjbikes.com/forums/thre...0-550-600s-with-pics.29541/page-5#post-627166. Cover off plates out plates inspected all good back in new gasket cover on still no clutch. Having never did clutch work i dont know what is wrong the only thing i noticed is there is a lot of in and out play in the throwout arn that passses through the plate that is bolted on with the clutch springs any help would be great

If your talking about the center shaft coming out of center of spring plate with splines on one side, it pulls outward when operating clutch for disengagement, and pushes back in when released to re-engage. It also rotates with a round thrust bearing, and should have some minor movement, as long as it does not push all the way back and fall off the spring plate.

What's with all the clutch problems lately? I've been reading this forum for 3 years now and I've never seen so many clutch issues being asked about.

Yes i am on about the center shaft that goes through the spring plate. I probably did not make myself clear after screwing spring plate on the center shaft has no pressure on it it is free to flop in and out. does the center of the basket that the shaft presses on move in and out as mine does not?.

    XjBikes.com......"the year of the clutch"

Yes it should spin, and jiggle around by hand freely. If not you have issues.

Should it also be free to push in and out i thought there would have been some type of tension on it after the spring plate is on

What's your exact model? Yamaha XJ6-F DIVERSION 600
I believe yours has a push rod type clutch mechanism. Is clutch cable mounted to engine on opposite side as clutch pack?

Ok, yes yours works in same way as 550, therefore the middle half splined pull rod must be free moving rotation and slight springed movement in and out. If not the trust bearing is locked up/and or fused to spring plate. I can't seem to find your specific diagram but clutch cover tells me its similar to the 550.

Yep thats the diagram i used to order a new bearing as when i took it apart the bearing feel apart. 3 times now i have put it all together wnd when i use the clutch the axle lever pushes on the push rod wich moves inwards put it is not pushing on anything it is like the clutch basket is to far away and the push rod dors not reach. Push rod is no broke. it is like the part of the clutch that the push rod would push against is pushed back into the engine

I pray there is no loose parts dropped down into the case? that will not end well.

And when you operate the clutch, it should pull "out" on the splined rod, not push in, except for when releasing clutch lever.

This is generally not necessary to service the trust bearing. My xj550is on original one and two clutch packs later.
It uses the engine oil as lube so an oil change does the job. Oil it up before reinstall.
