Newbie here, just wanted to say hello. Bought a 1985 XJ 700 Maxim last week, and have been reading up on it. Runs pretty well, but there is a pile of stuff that needs to be done, as I learned from this site. Brake lines (original...yikes,) Rear brake check/replace, fuse box replacement, carb clean (church of clean style eventually) oil change, etc... Glad I found this place, you folks are a wealth of knowledge and have probably saved me a good bit of road rash or worse already.

Being new again to motorcycles and not that much of a mechanic I wanna say thanks, and thanks in advance!

Welcome from NW Mississippi. Your going to love that bike. The only thing i hated was the foot control placement. Had to make some forward controls which are more comfortable and keep you from sliding forward in the seat.

    Welcome.

If you haven't already, be sure to read "Be the Bunny".

    Read this thread: www.xjbikes.com/Forums...36362.html

It will hit just about everything you need to know.

A couple of Add-ons: get a headlight and taillight modulator.
When it is time to replace the battery, get an AGM or GEL, not standard lead acid. They will cost nearly 2x as much as the lead acid but will last more than twice as long, don't require any maintenance, hold a charge longer, are spill proof ... mail order they are much more reasonable, maybe $50 with shipping for an AGM, $25 more for a Gel?

Take a look at my post here: xjbikes.com/Forums/vie...36455.html

    It is the third reply.
