    Hello to everyone!

I have been surfing these fine forums looking for ideas and suggestions and everything else in between to help me fix and customize my recent purchase of a neglected 1982 Maxim 550J. I bought the bike for only $300 knowing it needed a little work. I figured it was a nice looking bike and have heard from a couple of friends that have them that once they are running right they are great all around.

Any way, back to the bike. When I bought the bike I thought I was just going to be getting the bike but I was mistaken. I think the guy was going to try and customize the hell out of it. For my $300 I go the bike, 4 sets of handle bars, a high back backrest, a new tank for a 750 SECA, a complete tail section for a 750 SECA, a second set of mirrors, new battery, a new helmet, and a jacket. Not to bad for $300. It was not running when I got it but it is now. Granted its a little rough but it is running. I cleaned the carbs, replaced the air filter, changed the oil and replaced the filter, changed out the spark plugs and charged the battery. I bench sinked the carbs but I still need to get the proper tools to finish the job here next payday. I have already ordered and received the XJCD set and I must say this will be a HUGE help for me as I am not that mechanically inclined, but I am always willing to try and fix something myself with the proper set of instructions. Once I get things sorted out as to what I am going to keep and what I am going to ditch I will post a little list. Currently though its a given that the tail section is a goner as well as the backrest. Other than that I look forward to chatting with you all and seeing what kind of interesting things can and have been done to these fine machines.

Way to go, seems like you got a REALLY sweet deal for $300. A 750 tank will run you about $100. And your bikes a runner to boot!

    Welcome to the board

Great score and the parts are worth the price of the bike, what more could be asked! Glad you've joined us, now get that thing tweaked and send us some pictures.
