so my 82 xj650 seca is being a little turd. Noticed today that I have no high or low lights. Yet my blue high beam indicator is stuck on. She was working fine prior. The only other time this has happened was after an intense amount of rain. Anyway was wondering if this was something specific? I checked the manual, nada. I have an aftermarket lamp in running an H4 bulb which is one season old. Stil looks mint. My fuse situation is ehhh not perfect I guess? The headlight fuse has moisture on the inside but when I remove it the lights all go out on the cluster. Kinda stumped at the moment...

Replace the fuse first .. have you upgraded to blade type fuses?(recommended) unplug bulb check for continuty on the blades. If nothing replace bulb.. if ok , check for voltage at the plug( bike running) if no voltage you have a wiring or fuse problem. Cheers

I have the cylindrical style fuses. None seem to be very new. Went to a local napa auto store looking for a fuse replacement for the very same headlight fuse and they had nothing like it.

Check to see if you have power to the headlight plug.

FIRST, though..... If your bike is not running, and you just have the key turn on, you WONT have any headlight at all until you start the bike ( or at least have it turn over fast enough to engage the "latching" circuitry.

Then pull your headlight out and see if the plug as fallen off the bac.

Test for voltage at the wires

Also, test for continuity in the headlight itself----you may have a dead headlight!

Pulled headlight apart. Found the little pigtail that plugs onto the H4 had melted on one terminal? Anyway I found a spare laying around from my old Land Rover and spliced it in there. Plugged in the new bulb and I now have my hi/lows back. That's pretty odd tho, I just got that headlamp/bulb/ and wiring from dime city cycles and that's how fast it went?!?

Make sure your connections are clean. Higher amperage connections such as a head light will heat up pretty good if they're dirty. The dirt reduces the amount of contact area between the connections and results in a smaller contact area. The added load on those areas causes it to heat up.

Sounds about right. They have been known to sell some low-end crap. Not everything they offer is bad though.
