OK so I'm a doofus, I've misplaced the top-hat spacer from the right side of my front wheel.

So If anyone has the spacer to hand (from a 900 model) could you please be a saint & measure up the ID, the 2 OD's and the width for me please, just in case it doesn't return from it's walkabout & I end up having to make a new one... Or even just the width would suffice but it'd need to be off the wheel to measure that correctly anyway :( With a bit of luck I won't have to do this but I'm starting to lose hope now I've turned all of indoors upside down & not found it yet :? Moving on to outdoors between front door & bike now.

Thanks in advance anyone who can give me the vital stats 8)

But - the front fork legs on your bike are not the same castings as the 900 - you don't have anti-dive.

    Just throwing that out there,

My bikes an E-II though, so it is a 900 with a 749cc engine and the castings are exactly the same. that's why I asked for 900 dimensions ;)

Check to see if you didn't slip it back onto the exle so you wouldn't lose it. Done that one enough....................

I don't have my bikes out/here right now......they're alll tucked away for the winter.

Your best bet would be to talk to Len Chacal at xj4ever. He can help you out with that.

Yeah I'll have to shoot chacal a pm I think, it's definitely not on the axle as first port of call was look on there & all round under the bike to see if I'd dropped it while swapping wheels over.

What really gets me is I seem to remember deliberately leaving it off for some reason but now I haven't the foggiest why I would have done something like that. (but I did, since the old wheel was loosely fitted with speedo drive/nut/washer but no spacer. I used the old one as a temp. since the discs were off & tyre needed seating on the "new" one...)

All I can think is I pushed it into the new wheel for safe keeping & then lost it on the way to the garage :(

The one I have is off a 750 RL so no it's not anti dive but if it helps any it's 20mm long full length,Raised collar is 9.2mm
    I---20mm---I
    I-------I-----I
    I-9.2-I
The widest part of the cylinder is 26mm [The 9.2 section]
The narrower part is 22 mm.
Hope this is of some help.

Brilliant thanks you're a star, Gunna! 8) I'll see if that looks reasonable when I go back out after lunch. Actually now I've fitted the later 900 forks I don't have anti dive anymore come to think of it!

but the later 58L fork bottoms were exactly the same anyway as I checked while it was indoors & the front wheel fitted then. Hacked off now 'cause I'm sure it wasn't in the wheel when I went to the garage so it MUST be around here somewhere & no doubt will turn up as soon as I replace it!

Truly amazing how this information super highway thing works...here I am drinking coffee in my basement on a wintery Sunday morning in Wisconsin, and I'm listening in on a conversation as a gentleman from the UK is looking for dimensions for an obscure part for an obscure bike and he's getting answers from a from a guy half way around the world...simply could not have been done 25 years ago!

So......what are you actually putting on the bike?

    xj900rk forks w/ anti-dive
xj900rk forks w/ anti-dive that has been removed
xj900 forks from an later bike...........what year?
    xj750rl forks.........

    etc.......

I'm lost now, after reading through the thread again.

XJ900 forks (from a 58L model post '84, no antidive, plenty pics in the rebuild thread) in the original yokes, not sure what year but the bottoms where the axle goes was identical as I'd already confirmed this on the dry build.

Just to confuse you a little more Dave it just so happened that gunna's 750RL spacer dimensions which he posted, I guess on the off chance, were in fact correct (I made one to those specs just to see & it's perfect).

Anyway big thanks to gunnabuild1 as that was all that was holding me back & I've just got back from the test ride. Yep she's sweeter than ever 8)

Because I'm an Englishman & we're all gentlemen, while you're a hairy arsed Aussie lol :p I'm sure you're really a gent also, having been on the receiving end of your decidedly gentlemanly behaviour I think we can admit you to the club as an honourary member

And I don't have a lathe in the shed (worst luck I don't have a shed I could fit a bike in, only a few tools & spares) but I do have access to a small lathe & some other light machine tools at a friends yard so was able to pop round & knock the spacer up from a handy old nut from a truck spring's U-bolt. Much appreciated as I said, this was all I needed to make her rideable. 8)
