I just picked it up today !!
some kind of chain rattle coming from the exhaust side of the head. Or maybe really bad valve lash noise. It's the reason the PO stopped riding it.

I could use specs and cam chain adjusting info, if anyone has that handy.
    Thanks in advance.

There will be fresh gas and some carb tapping- - if it still leaks, the carbs will come off. I have a carb rebuild how-to already for this type.

Pics as soon as I wash it!!

    hmm

    go to cb750c.com

they're kinda mean there, nothin like xjbikes, but they will help, and hondas are infamous for their cam chain noise.... probably needs a new one if its never been adjusted

cars are relatively easy to work on make sure they clunk!

Actually, you'd want to go to CB1100F.net since it's a Super Sport and I'm assuming an 81/82 which were DOHC's.
    The CB750.com was for SOHC's.

Regarding that carb, might want to recheck float levels and clean the discharge tube for the accelerator pump that feeds into the horn of each carb. That was the only thing that was wrong with the one I picked up a few years ago. Ran great after that and a sync.

The info I sent ya should help you through the timing/valves and a bit more :) .

I stand corrected! That site was originally dedicated to the Custom model.

Thanks for that info- - just what I needed.
    It's an '81 with a rusty 4 - 1 and a Suzuki can welded on.
24,000 miles, crappy repaint, 2 year old tires, nothing hacked or butchered.

The Pilot screw adjustment instructions is practically "tune it by ear" compared to the fine adjustment advise given on this site.

I adjusted the timing chain tension but still have a nasty rattle/buzz.
Turns out the tensioner is broken.
My friend doesn't want to fix this or the forks, brakes, front tire, etc.
    It's back on Craigslist.
