New round slide or flat slide carbs of the proper size will work well on an XJ. Mikuni makes similar ones. However, as you can see, good carbs are quite expensive. The good models of Mikunis are about $1000 per set. That's why they put such cheap ones on the bikes from the factory. I would go with a fuel injection setup from an GSXR-600 before spending that much on old fashioned carbs.

Well I believe there is a solution. I've done a lot of research on Megasquirt, and I believe like many cars with custom set ups, it would be the only choice for us that want EFI. The biggest issues with MS is that you will have to find a way of making it H2O proof, before slapping it on your bike. Other than that....you will pretty much have an on board computer....ithat monitors all things like O2 levels, Ign timing, and the works, plus adding EFI. Now it would just take one of us, to get one, hack things out with the XJ computer, and the mega squirt, get timing and things corrected, get an O2 syn. bung in the exhaust, get things squared away, and there ya go....mega squirt can be used for any engine app, 1-12 cylinders. ON ANY VEHICLE TYPE! now if you want to shell out 400 bones, there is the microsquirt, that is smaller and made just for bike....but for 250 less you can get the mega squirt and customize to your XJ, your way!

Well if I hit the lotto I'll send the Magasquirt and my bike to some custom shop and show it to you guy s when it's done! As for the carbs... a grand is alot of money for probably a few Hp, but if they are easier to tune and maintane then it just might be worth it... But I have no idea... I doubt many people have paid the 800-1000 bucks for the nice carbs. Rick I know you know something!

1K, man there are the whole EFI setups on ebay from a gxsr 600 for less than 300$. Thats not bad...if you have the money that is. Keep in mind with carbs, there's cleaning, tuning with various tuning methods (that cost money) jetting, re jetting all that stuff....EFI would just require throttle body,MS1 or 2
fuel pump, and oxy sensor. And you'll never have to put another tool to your air fuel side of your engine again.

Thats a good point, but making the system work well could prove to be very difficult without someone who knows what they are doing helping out... I've never done an upgrade like this so I am hesitant to try it.. Sounds like a fantastic idea though! I'm 50/50 on it at the moment.
