I recently bought an 84 xj750 and I have been trying to replace the fork seals however I cannot figure out how to get the forks apart. I tried unscrewing the bolt at the bottom but it got to a point where it would just keep twisting and would never come out. If anyone knows how to go about it any information would be appreciated.

    Get a Manual.

The Bottom Bolt holds the Lower-End of the Damper Rod.
The Damper Rod will spin and not let you extract the Bottom Bolt unless you insert a Tool down into the Fork and into the Top of the Damper Rod.

The Damper Rod has an Allen-Type Hex at the Top.
When the Fort Tool is inserted into the Top of the Damper Rod ...
The Damper Rod can be held from ROTATING ... allowing you to extract the Lower Bolt and allow the Damper Rod to be disengaged and allowed to slide out from the Bottom of the Lower Fork Tube.

Weld a 19 mm Hex Nut or Hex Head Bolt to the end of a 60 mm Steel Rod.
    Grind the weld smooth.
    Front Fork Tool.
Insert the Hex Headed Tool down into the Tube.
Fit it in the Top of the Damper.
    Hold steady with Vice Grips
    Pull-out the Bottom Bolt.
    Done.
