I see the thread with how fast everyone rides and I myself like to throw my feet on the passenger pegs and see what she has got. So i was curious if any of you guys have been busted playing around.

I was on a back road at night and had a car fly up on me at twice my speed. I assumed he was a drunk driver and took off. Got onto the main road and the "drunk" pulls me over. It was a cop. I explained what I thought and how him approaching so quickly made me fear for my safety. I wasn't speeding at all before he was feet from my tail end. Gave me a ticket for 60 in a 35. Ouch. Lawyer had it dropped to invalid parking... $275.00 later.

Bet he got bullied in school & never got laid... at least I HOPE that's the case, what a w**ker!

Is it any wonder people don't like traffic cops with people like that on the job

Not been busted on a bike so far (nearly did once when I was younger, but I didn't hang around to see what he wanted!). In a car I've been caught doing 50 in a 30 that's about it & was a fair cop TBH :?

    Wow, that's like Dejavu.
Had a similar experience many years ago. Coming home in the wee hours through a part of town known for a local "Bike Club" area. Waiting for the lights to change and a big old Chevy Caprice pulls right up on my tail (less than a foot) making me nervous, so the lights change and the car is sticking less than a bike lenght behind me so I signal and pull into the right lane to let him go. Car pulls behind me, no signals, nothing. Getting more nervous, signal back into the left lane and the car pulls the same stunt. Getting real nervous now so dropped acouple of gears, give it a squirt and go! Next thing I know lights are flashing on the dash and I get pulled over. Cop gets out and asks why I'm on the road at that time of night, WTF!!!!! So I kept my cool and told him (without being ignorant) what I thought of his "Tactics". I got two tickets, one for "weaving" across two lanes and another for speeding. I then politely (really) thanked him and went down to the Court House the same day and asked to talk to a J.o P. and explained the whole situation about the way I felt I was set up and that I felt that the tickets were unfair and if needed I would seek legal counsel.
Both charges were dropped and an apology was issued through the mail from the cop. No fines, no points, but it did scare the crap out of me until the cop put his lights on.

never on the bike, i was lost one night leaving town and was all turned aound due to a bridge being out, was cruising down a rural road not even thinking about the speed limit or how fast i was going cause i was lost, but figured the speedlimit was 45 due to it being out near the country - rolled by a cop, a few seconds later he rolls out and on come the lights - first thing i asked him when he came to the car - what the speed limit was - turns out it was a 35. so 51 in a 35, whoops.

this being a few months before i got the bike, i knew i was in the market for one and was afraid how the ticket would affect my ins not only on the car but the bike as well, so i went to my court date and talked with the judge. he offered to reduce it from 140 and 4 pts to 85 and 2 points, OR to change it to a "disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle" for 175$

Thing is, is the disorderly conduct was just an ordinance violation, and therefore would just stay in the township that i was in, and not be reported to the state/or the dot/dmv, etc, and won;t show up under a search done by an ins co.

so did that, and so a year or 2 later i was in there renewing my bike ins, and asked what that one ticket would have done to my rates. on my CAR, i pay just over 150 for 6 months for full medical coverage and liability. turns out with that ticket it would have DOUBLED it, for THREE YEARS. so thats 300x3 - 900$ if i would have not went to court and changed it. glad i paid the 175.

The municipality is glad you paid the money too. You just got scammed for money by the judge.

Who hires a lawyer for a speeding ticket? How Worthless, lawyer fees far outweigh the fine. Dumb.

I don't see a scam. He was given fair options (Judges don't have to make deals) and he chose the least costly overall. I've never managed to get a break on a ticket. I've gotten verbal warnings that should have been tickets, but not a single break otherwise.

If he already had points, the insurance rate increase would outweigh the fine by a whole lot more. Personally, I'd rather pay the $275 once than an extra $100 every month for three years.

In missouri it removes it from your record and no points. No increase in insurance plus if you get pulled over your record comes up perfect.

insurance on my bike is $22 a month with an sr-22 attached to it. the lowest it is able to be is $19 dollars. what is $2??? not really worth the time and money for a lawyer in my opinon. just take the stop class if you dont want points.

yeah, no scam there. sure, the municipality got more money, but overall it was WAY cheaper than getting the ticket and having my ins company shove it where the sun dont shine! 8O

The city is in the business of writing tickets for revenue. People who fight there tickets cost the court more money than they make.
You just paid them an even larger fee, because they made you feel guilty for driving your small vehicle at a safe speed considering semi's have the same speed limit. Then they offered you a "deal" to 'let you off the hook' and you paid it with a grin on your face.

    Scam for sure

No, we just are either lucky or keep an eye out for cops when putting the hammer down

I have my favourite roads for riding hard, and they change over time as other people catch on to it being a decent riding road, then the cops catch on to it being a decent "safety enforcing" (revenue generating) road, then we change routes & the cycle begins anew...

@ special_edy, I think the point is he was caught anyway & the judge/county/gov't or whoever was always going to make some cash, the guy just took the option to give them a little more cash & not have the doubled insurance premiums for 3 years which would have put even more money in other people's pocket than his. No scam really, just the way things work sadly.
