Eight years of engineering school, 4.0 GPA, but before you join Honorable Yamaha Engineering staff, let's see you design a lawnmower.

But to answer your Q, properly maintained, at about 60,000 the chain tensioners come apart, and maybe a little earlier, the starter clutch ring can split on a few bikes. Then there's the odd thrown rod on previously abused machines.

I have 48,000 on my '81 Seca 750. One has gone past 200,000 miles.

Well, ... most of us know they'll go 25-Years and still start and go when you fire it up.

    Mileage?
That depends on how well the Plant was treated.
    "Treated".

Treated inn terms of performing all the recommended maintenance.
Plus, ... doing maintenance beyond recommended intervals.

    Treated. Ridden.

Find a bike that an owner loved and maintained like a newborn and you will go beyond the 55-60K mark for Timing Chain Replacement.

The highest mileage Xj bike I saw had 67,000 on the clock and the main chain guide was bad. The owner was looking at one of my spare motors to buy and install rather than fixing the engine he had.

My XJ550 had 68,750 miles on it when it finally burnt a valve on the way home from a 1000km trip, cam chain guides were still good when I stripped it but it was starting to use oil
