I have a 82 xj750 and I'm stripping everything off and cleaning and re painting everything. I'm down to just pulling the engine but I've never dealt with a drive shaft before and I'm wondering if anyone knows how to safely remove the shaft from the engine?

roll the bellows back from the engine side and remove the 4 bolts holding it to the flange.

That is how you unbolt the u-joint, of course the shaft will be away from the engine but you may find that THAT whole end is still in the way/nuisance.

What I'd do is pull the rear wheel off. Then pull the 4 bolts that hold the rear housing onto the swingarm. Pull the housing and the shaft out.

So, there's a couple different ways you can do it. Do whatever one works best for you.

I haven't even looked that closely at it yet. I just wanted some input before I started tearing into it. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
