I'm experimenting with raising my jet needles, and I'm curious where you put the washers. Slide the needles though the washer, or pu the washer somewhere else. Searching the forums I've seen talk of adjusting "clicks". The stock carbs are not adjustable, are they? Thanks, Lou

    Stock needles are not adjustable.

Aftermarket "jet kit" needles often have four or five slots in which an E-clip can be placed to adjust the needle height.

If you're trying to richen your mid-band mixture, you'll want to run the needle through a small washer, when putting the needle back into the slide, to lift the needle higher in the emulsion tube.

Any advice on the material, size, or thickness of the washer to shim the needle on a stock carb. I'm getting ready to play carb tuner, and once I figure out my main jet situation, I want to be ready to adjust the needle if need be.

I've found they react nicely to a .020 aluminum washer.

for the amount of time you will spend finding washers trying different jet sizes I think the after market jet/needle kit is the wat to go.

Where can I get one of these kits...and how do their sizes compare to stock (I've heard the numbering systems can be different between brands)? Also, how much are they? Any recommendation?

back in the day, the conventional wisdom was that .010" would do it.
