How would you rate the condition of this plug?

This isn't actually out of either of my XJs, but it is out of a 4-stroke. I'm curious what you experts out there think of this condition of this plug. I believe it probably has around 30000 miles on it since I don't recall changing it before. The bike has always run great and is what I would consider a "happy engine".

Does this seem like normal wear for a plug of this age? (I have my opinions, but I'd like to hear others first)

That looks like it has had a great life and wouldn't mind just carrying on.
    Impressive. I'm no expert btw.

Did you use flash when you took the photograph? Might just be the light it looks white to me indicating a weaker mixture, not sure about wear.

No flash. Just LED shop lights in the garage.

My interpretation is that it looks reasonably normal, with perhaps just a touch toward the lean end of the spectrum. I was surprised to see the thickness of deposits. I haven't seen a plug quite so "fluffy" before. Center electrode almost looks tilted. Hard to say if that is just deposits or if it has eroded.

Slightly lean is generally desirable around here since I live at around 6,000ft and most rides go up from here. Everything tends to run rich. A couple years ago I had this bike down near sea level and it did start running a bit rough when pushing it hard. Probably would want to fatten up the main if I was going to spend more time down there.

That tilt would be normal on my 22re if i let them run that long and the gap slowly widens. The white fluffy i usually interpret as burning a bit of oil - but I am no expert either.

Yes I agree it does look fluffy and it does look tilted but if the engine is running fine even slightly lean and is not overheating should be ok. Are you going to clean the plug and reuse, see what it is like after running a while?

But you are with electrical systems.

Burning oil actually makes sense. This is out of a KLR650 - a bike notorious for burning oil when running for long periods at > 5000RPM.

New plug just arrived, so this one will be retired after 19 years of faithful service. :)
