What about the XJ1100, I think it could do around a 12 sec 1/4 mile. Not realy sure.

I looked, that particular chart did not have a 750 or 1100. I put up all of the XJs along with some comparison stuff. did you notice that the 1200 sportster is a full second slower than a Yamaha with half the engine. And It's over 3 seconds slower than the 900 that's 13 years older.

V-Twin vs. Inline-4, they are not even comparable. The maxim is just getting into the power band when one of those V-twins is screaming at the redline.

Funny thing this thread came up. Now im by no means a guy that likes to race. But, i do ride with 3 guys under 30 and im over 40. They all ride sportser 1200's ranging from 03-07 in years. One of these guys i work with every day. He used to race quads and snowmobile. This is his first motorcycle and his second year with it. Of course being as competetive as he is, he wants to race the maxim (rice burner as he calls it). I will not, due to my safety and my bike being 27 years old. But, what would the outcome be with all things being equal. I have rode his 03 sportster with open pipes and loud as @#*. Lots of torque and quick off the line, but i still think in the 1/4 i would take him. He claims he's been at 115 mph. and i told him i doubt it goes that fast. He just cannot believe a 750 could beet a 1200. I told him inline 4 vs. twin is apple and oranges. What do ya all think?

I think that once, just once, you should get on a straight road and roast his a$$ to shut him up.

I am going on a 1,000 mile trip in June with these three guys. We are roughing it in tents. These guys are scary to ride with the way it is. They average 80 in a 70 zone and 70 in a 55 zone. They sometimes pass on the right. I stay up front the most i can because there so @**# LOUD! If i even tried to pass them to show off, we would then have 4 people going over 100!mph. because thats how they are. If i get a chance, i may take it. I would love nothing more than to SHUT THEM UP FOR GOOD! I have nothing against Harley's thou.

    No need, really.

    Published stats:

Cycle Magazine road test, 2/81: 13.16sec at 99.44mph. Based on photos, this may not have been a YICS motor, it was definitely a pre-production bike. The rest are probably more indicative of production machines.

Cycle World road test, 4/81: 12.99sec at 98.57mph.

Cycle World comparison test, 8/82: 13.06sec at 97.82mph.

Cycle Magazine mini test, 2/83: 13.05sec at 98.46mph.

Keep in mind, these are all for the Seca 550. The Maxim has slighly milder cams and a different primary drive ratio so I can't give you Maxim numbers. I would think they would be similar.
