Hi guys. I'm new here. I got the link from a nice fellow, Blake, who responded to my craigslist ad looking for some carb help on a 1980 Maxim 650.

Anyway, I have had this bike for 20 plus years. Now that I am older I went for a touring bike. I told my son that if he could get the bike runing he could ride it. Well to my surprise he got her going.

As you all know, most years start out with cleaning at least the carb bowls. I had rebult the carbs and put new metering valves in them. This bike has always had an issue starting cold even choked. I picked up a set of carbs on ebay and now the bike starts great but will not idle. These ebay carbs came from Colorodo. I live in upstate New York. Could these be jetted diffferently and causing the idle problem? Maybe I should have asked in a different forum.

Anyway, great site! Thanks Blake for sending me here. Thanks guys for havin me.

    Pat

    Hey Pat.
Gitarded aye ;) Glad you're here bro!
Sure could be a jet issue given altitude or even just jetted for
stacks/header. You'd have to check your jets out tho. Shoot
yeah, You came to the right place!!! Some entirely righteous
folks here and they know these XJ's inside 'n out. Check around
reference carb issues and you'll run on a TON of help/insight.
