Howdy from Ft. Worth

    I just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself. My name is Mike and I have an 82 Seca 650 with 11000 original miles. It has been sitting up for nearly 10 years while I've done some heavy remodeling, construction and had some very busy times at work. It was knocked over while in storage at a relatives place, so it got to where it wasn't just a matter of airing up the tires and taking it out.

    The tires were dry rotted, Carbs weren't working well, rt turn signal, brake lever and throttle were all broke and the master cylinder was frozen. Also the rt. cylinder air intake where the carb mounts is broken.

    I just received carb parts from Chacal, new Bridgestone S11 tires, levers and a master cylinder repair kit. I found that the master cylinder was frozen because some lame brain filled it with sand. That brought out some choice words and will add to the work making sure it didn't get into the lines or calipers. I think I'll have that fixed tomorrow. I still need to find a good welder to help with the air intake and I'm hoping I won't have to pull the engine to fix that. If I knew someone who could take care of that, I could be riding as early as next weekend, but I'll probably have to do some digging to find someone competent. I also still need to find a turn signal and throttle tube. If anyone has a reasonable source for those I'd appreciate it.

    I'm usually short on time and I may not be able to check back as often as I'd like, but I've already learned a lot from just hanging out and reading.

    howdy neighbor and welcome to the forum. Most of the time we find bikes that have been sitting around for years on end, but if i understand correctly in your post YOU were the one that let the bike sit for 10 years! Well good to see you are in the process of getting it back in order. Too bad you just missed the carb clinic last month or we could have helped you get the carb back in order and tuned up. For turn signals, you can get those just about anywhere but check out www.denniskirk.com for a pretty good variety. Not sure what you are referring to for "throttle tube", if you mean throttle cable then your local bike shop or dealer can order Motion Pro cables from the Parts Unlimited catalog. I just got a cable for mine from the Grapevine Yamaha dealer for $13. Good luck on the repairs and lets see some pictures.

    Yep. I'm the one that let it sit. I bought it in 90 with 5k miles and rode sporadically until 99, then I just didn't have time for it. Now I have a little more time and I got tired of stepping over it.

    I'm sorry I missed the carb clinic, I don't have a lot of experience with multiple carbs so I'm certain I'd have learned a bunch.

    The throttle tube is the plastic piece under the grip that the cable attaches to. I think it comes with the grip, but I'm not sure. I just found it and a pair of used turn signals at a used parts dealer for a price I was willing to pay. All of the pieces are now on the way. I just need a good welder/machinist for the cylinder.

    Nice job getting that Intake welded-up. Did you have it filled or did you fashion a piece and weld it in place?

    The guy that did it builds custom bikes around here and is a real nice guy. I had the part that broke off, but he preferred to build it up and then tap it. I was going to dress the outside of it a bit better, but it may be one of those things I never get around to. The sealing surface is excellent and I can detect no leakage at all.

    This was the only thing I had to have done for me. My welding just isn't up to snuff.

    Puddling Aluminum weld to be as solid at billet is an Art! Looks like that fellow who did your repair has a great "Hand" and did a fine job saving that Head for you!
