I have a 92 xj600 I'm not sure if it not starting would be related to the cam chain adjustment or not. Before the adjustment it started right up with zero problems.
Could it have come out of time somehow? Anyone have any ideas?

I've seen cam chain adjustments turn into valve jobs before. If you rotated the engine and the adjuster was not holding the cam chain tight it could have slipped out of time. If it hasn't hit a valve during your start attempts you can recover. Pull the valve cover and check the cams alignment points as per the manual. If they are off you will have to reset them. Once you know they are right pull a compression tests. That will tell you if you have bent a valve during the start attempts. Good luck and I hope you just have a much simpler problem

well it turned out to be a fuel issue. The fuel filter was clogged. I changed it out with a new one and it started right up. My only thing now is that the noise is still there. I will try to re-adjust the tensioner again.

there is always a good bit of valve noise. Normal for these bikes. If you suspect your chain pull the valve cover and pull on the chain - you will know in a hurry if it's loose.
