I sold my maxim X! I sold it cuz my Mrs. took ill and spent a couple of days in the hospital. She had orders from the doctor not to go back to work for 6 weeks. Her not having any sick time or vacation time left to compensate that needed missing income caused me to panic. So, I put Mr. Max for sale. Some kid who kept driving by and looking at the bike decided to knock on the door and inquire within. I told him that I really didnt want to sell it, but felt I needed to for the reason I mentioned above. He asked;" Can I take it for a spin?" I replied; " Do you have your bike license?" He said; " No, but I have ridden my friends dirt bike a couple of times". I replied; " well why dont I give you a ride if your ok with that". I dont think he cared for the idea, but he agreed any way. When we got back he said; " Man that thing hauls!" I said; "yep!" with confidence. The kid asked me," how much you willing to go down on your price?" I said; " none... I'm asking $1800.00 FIRM, No less." Well the kid came back the next day with the cash and the rest is history. None the less, I paid off all the bills so we wouldnt get a month behind on every thing and started to have withdrawals. So, I had some cash left over and started bike hunting again. No luck finding another maxim X in this region. So I ended coming across an 83 suzuki gs 750 e in pretty darn good shape for an 83! I tried it out and satisfied my need to ride. I ended up buying it for $900.00. It is a pretty nice bike, but still falls slightly short of my old 86 Maxim x. I'm gonna kick myself in the a** for selling it for a long time. For now though, I am reasonably happy on this GS. In the mean time, I'm just riding to ride, but someday I'll score another X to fix up, like I did with my other one. Until then I'll just remember that out of all the bikes I've ever owned, The X ranks as No. 2 Right behind No. 1, My old 97 yzf 1000R! That X was one awesome ride! Any way heres a pic of the Gs if anyone cares to see...

Sorry to hear about your Mrs taking ill.

In my eyes you did the right thing. Family comes first. As much as we all love to ride at the end of the day our bikes are only hunks of metal that can be replaced. Don’t think of what you have lost when you sold your machine, think of the experience you have gained restoring her. Your next project will be all the better, and the next, and the next, and the next…………………………..

The GS is a good looking bike. When not obsessing over getting another XJ I've been looking at the Suzuki Bandits. I think they are similar in styling.
Now, in your post you say you got an 83 GS, but that LOOKS like a 90s bike. Am I wrong? (I dunno)

your right edgar about it looking like a 90's styled bike, but my gs is an 83. I feel suzuki was producing some styles in the early 80's that were way ahead of there time. Yamaha produced some too in the mid 80's, that were way Modern for the era, (especially tecnology wise) like the; 86 fzx 700 fazer, 85 maxim x, fj1100, 85 fz750, who can forget the V-max, and oh yeah... the srx600 single. People back then either loved the styling of these bikes or hated them, because they were not ready for what the future was bringing, and these bikes including the gse750e brought a glimpse of the future. Your right about the bandits though, they are a nice looking bike. Especially the ones that you can get without the fairing.
