i have really messed up this time need help

    today i thought i would give it ago at getting the brass plugs out to get to pilot screw as im rebuliding my xj 750 chopper. well what a nightmare i followed instructions to drill a small hole in the center and screw in a drywall screw simple right. well that didnt go to plan firstly the dill bit got snaped then second drill bit would not grab and drill. finaly i was soo pissed and angry i started to bash the little bugers big mistake now plugs have gone down about 5 mm so i dont know what damage i have done to pilot screw. would anyone happen to know if this is repairble or should i just give up and buy some brand new shiny carbs. if i need to get new carbs will any 750 engine carbs fit from orther makes and models as i have a kawazaki zx750 i could use.
    any help on this would be very usefull thanks

    carbs pop up on ebay all the time. Just grab another set.

    Wow I kinda want to see pictures.... every time i open my carbs i dont see jets, i see brass dollar signs :D you can always think of it this way you diddnt cause a new problem, you opted for a new solution :D

    Give up? I don't know the meaning. . .

    Of course not, get those caps of, or swing by a Mom and Pop bike shop and have them do it. Then get back to cleaning those carbs, even if you have to order new Pilot screws from Chacal. I don't know of any other bike's carbs working here. And you can't buy new ones; when they turn up on E-Bay, they run $250 EACH !!

    if the only damage done is to the jets then yes it should be repairable....

    Hiya just to confirm on engine side of carbs there seems to be 2 brass plugs on each carb one big one small is it the big one I remove also how big in lengh are these plugs as when plug went down I thought it may have ruind threads on screw as went down so far is this possible that plug could of pushed screw out

    wow i somehow diddnt spot that the first time ...... ok so the hole is drilled and you have lost access to it, and its now recessed. do you own a slide hammer or a pick? could you borrow one? if so and if you could open it enough to get the hooks in that might be an option.

    1. Get some *GOOD* quality metal drill bits.

    2. Make/get a collar you can put on the bit that is just the tiniest bit smaller than the pilot hole. You could use one of the other plugs that you did get out and sand it down a little smaller ... just enough so it will fit in. Drill that onto the bit, keeping it near the tip of the bit

    3. With that collar on the bit to prevent movement off center, *SLOWLY* drill out the brass plug. Given that you have forced it in deeply, you are going to have to dill just about the full width of the hole and then use something like a dental pick to pull out the pieces. So you will most likely be doing this in steps, putting the collar on two or three successively larger bits. You could just start with a larger one a bit smaller than the hole, but I think the collar will be valuable for avoiding mistakes.

    Be sure to lubricate the collar on the outside so you don't have friction with the walls. Something heavy like bearing grease so it doesn't just flow away.
