I must say I'm impressed with the maxim X

Well I bought this bike for my nephew and had to clean and sync the carbs and adjust valves but now it runs like a new. I was pretty impressed on how the bike runs. I'm used to riding my modded Vmax so the maxim x is a little different but it does seem to hold it's own. Just wondering is the 700 maxim x a pretty durable engine? Sure seems to run smooth. Only thing that bugs me is that it seems to run hot driving slow. I know it's because of the fan that doesn't kick on till almost the red zone. Is there some kind of low temp fan switch I can get?

I've heard of people wiring in a switch to turn on the fan at will; the X I almost bought (turned out to be a good thing I didn't) had one installed.

If you're looking for one to turn on the fan at a lower temp, that I have no idea about at all. If nobody else here can come up with anything, perhaps the owner of the Maxim X site could shed some light.

I've never heard of a lower temp switch available that would fit.

If you wire in a manual switch, simply hook the switch in parallel to the thermal switch (the sensor on the thermostat housing with two wires)

If you just jump around the switch and leave it hooked up, you do not risk leaving the fan on and draining the battery with the bike off AND if you forget to turn it on (or your switch fails) the stock switch will kick in.

Don't worry too much about the high temps. I believe the "red" zone is about 240 and the yamaha engineers kind of knew what they were doing. BUT I do agree, I'd like to see it stay a bit cooler.
