Im new to this forum, but Ive read a lot of posts. Especially the troubleshooting posts. The bike is trying to turn over, I can hear it spinning but it never starts, unless I spray starting fluid into the air box, then it will start purely off the fumes.

I know it is not the battery. Ive checked it, charged it and crossed it out of the situation. Also, Ive checked the spark plugs. All 4 work fine. I cleaned all 4 carbs yesterday. Ive checked the petcock, and fuel comes out. The fuel lines arent clogged or kinked. What am I missing?!

Since you had the carbs off the fuel bowls are empty. You need to get fuel into there so it will start. Verify there is fuel in there by opening a bowl drain screw and see if there is fuel. How you do it depends on which bike you have, put it in your signature so we know. Some XJs have a prime position on the petcockl, some don't. Opening the automatic fuel valve with a vacuum source also works.
Once you have fuel and you have done all the carb work properly it should start. If not go back to the carbs and recheck floats, idle mixture screws and bench sync.

It'll "get her goin" IF you put the carbs back together right, and the float levels are close to correct, and you got the enrichment circuits cleaned....and...and.

But, once you get the bowls filled you will have a MUCH better shot at getting it to fire than with them empty :) :)

It's probably not an 84 XJ700 BTW (they didn't make them that year)
