    Ok so ive been having issues with the bike bogging/rev limiting at 5k rpm for a while now so I tore into it trying to find the issue.all I could find was its the center two cylinders not firing and im not sure how to test other than resistance and the coils and pickup coils are all in spec but im assuming its probably the tci. So I put the bike back together to go take a quick ride and go figure headlights not on. so i pull it back into the garage and have troubleshooted for the past week only to find it to be the relay which was not where the book says it is. So I replaced the relay with one I had in the box of spare parts I got with the bike and headlights and everything turned on fine. So I finished putting it back together and took it for a ride down my street. I made it about a half a mile and looked down to (you probably guessed it) smoke billowing out of my headlight casing. I slammed on the brakes and shut everything down. After pushing it back home I opened up my headlight and low and behold my diode block was melted/ing. At some time in its life it was swapped with an 82 motor if that has anything to do with it. Any ideas?

    Pull-apart the Plastic Quick-Connection of the Voltage Regulator to the Wiring Harness.

    Look for signs of overheat or melting.

    Particularly, at the corner where the RED Wires Terminals join.

    Melted? Y / N
    Y = Malfunctioning Voltage Regulator
    N = Look for Circuits with wrong fuses. Missing fuses. PO Stewpidkrape.

    If you swapped some other relay in place of the original headlight relay, then you probably put a short on the White/Blue line that latches the relay when the engine is started. That would quickly short out the diode in the diode block that feeds this line.

    Ignition overview and troubleshooting guide is here: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/p=274100.html

    Well the connector for the rectifier/regulator is good so its probably that relay. Time to do some shopping for a new relay which i will make sure the part numbers match , a New diode block and a new tci. Hopefully the motorcycle junkyard down by chillicothe will have the parts. I prob pick up two diode blocks just in case

    Try the Rice Paddy just south of campus, on Grant and 11th ave. As the name implies they only carry Japanese parts and may have what you need and is a lot closer than Chillicothe. Closed on Sunday and Wednesday.
