Bike runs fine other than fast idle. When first started with the choke on it is fine i.e. normal choke operation. Then as it warms up idle is around 1000 rpm with choke off. Ride it several miles until warmed up good and it idles at 2000-2300 rpm. I tried adjusting the cable at the throttle and it has no affect on the idle speed. Any suggestions?

Unwanted air, getting in around the carb boots (cracked maybe), throttle shaft seals, I had an issue where the rubber caps on the vac' ports softened when hot & leaked, so if the throttle cable isn't getting caught up, air will be the problem.

the idle adjustment is a knob under the carbs between 2/3 adjust it after it's fully warmed up, use a little choke till it gets up to temp

For those who like to make improvements to things when you can...

Remove the Idle Adjustment Rod and Spring.
Tape the Threads of the Rod.
Chuck the Rod into your Drill
High-speed spin the Rod holding 320 or 400 Paper to it.
Bring it down to bare metal.
    Hit it with 600 ... 800 ... 1000
    Shine it.
Bring the shined Rod to the Hardware Store
Get a Nylon Sleeve Bushing - 3/4" Long
(Thin Bush - Rod fits tight - Thin walled Bush)
Nylon Flat Washer that fits over the threaded end.
    Go home.

Press the Nylon Bushing into the Grommet on the Carb Rack
Smear some Waterproof Grease inside the Grommet
    Install the Rod
Grease the Threads and the Front Shoulder on the Rod
    Add the Nylon Flat Washer
    Spring
Thread the Rod into the Carb Rack and you have a:
E-Z Adjusting Idle Rod with Precision Motion.

Go the extra mile with coating the Rods Finger Knurl with Plasti-Dip or one of those Rubber things that Color Code Keys.
