I noticed today that my neutral indicator light is stuck on. What would cause this to stick? I have also noticed that when I'm waiting at a stoplight my idle goes from 1.5 to about 2.5, is that normal? I just got the bike so I'm trying to work out the bugs.

The switch could be shorted or stuck closed.

You might have an air leak or the Pilot Mixtures are in need of correcting.

The neutral light comes on when grounded. Typically what happens is some the wire sheathing wears or cracks exposing the wire and it touches the frame or engine causing it to light up. Usually it happens in the area where the switch is installed.

How do I find the air leak? How do I correct the Pilot Mixtures?

The air leak detection method easiest to do:

Turn on the gas from your propane torch and don't light it.
With just the gas running probe around the gaskets and boots while the engine is running.

The engine will draw-in the propane at the leak and the Idle will surge.
Be sure to do all around the Manifolds.
Thats where most leaks happen, when the Manifolds get brittle and crack.

I heard that I can use wd40 and spray in around the manifold. The idle drop when the wd40 plugs the hole. when the wd40 is sucked into the manifold the idle will again rise. Is this another way to find the leak? Or is it something completely different? If there is a leak how can I replace it? Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm trying to learn all I can about this bike.

If you spray WD-40 and you hit a spot and get a backfire the WD-40 will catch fire and burn until you put it out.

The Propane gas is safer. Not as messy ... and, more accurate in finding the leak.

    We don't need a fire.
I think we already had one, though.

So today I took the crankshaft cover off and tried to find the corroded neutral wire. No luck. Now whenever I hit the brakes the neutral light dims. What did I do? I'm turning into the king of taking this bike apart and not fixing a damn thing!!

I assume you know where the neutral switch is on the left side of the bike (when sitting on it) just inboard of the frame. If you can get at it easily, I would disconnect the wire from the neutral switch to have a good look at it. It should be obvious if there is an issue with the wire.

The switch looks fine. The wire that connects to the switch also looks fine,as far as i can see.
