I recently got a bike that was put away at the end of winter without fuel stabilizer or any kind of winterization. I started it up thinking maybe I'd get lucky, but after riding for a few miles It stalled and wouldn't start again. I pushed it home and took the carbs off and thoroughly cleaned them and the bike started up again. The problem I have now is that the bike wouldn't idle. so after it warmed up, I set the idle screw so that it would idle nicely, but now when I ride, if i pull the clutch to shift or stop, the engine goes crazy up to 6000 rpm. If I turn the idle screw back down, it won't go crazy, but it won't idle either. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

See my post on CLEANING YOUR CARBS
I could be wrong but sounds like the carb body ports are plugged up.
    Anyone think otherwise?

Check your throttle cable is running free & returning fully, check for air leaks, carb boots & throttle shaft seals, but my guess would be the slides need polishing, see clunck test.

    Josh,

What do your carb boots (the rubber parts going from the carb to the engine block) look like? If they're old and cracked they can let in air and cause idling trouble, or at least that was my problem. If you hold an unlit propane torch up to the boots and your idle increases then air is leaking in.
