Hello, I have alot of problems.
I would like to ask the Electronic whizzes a question. :D

Should the coils on my 81 550 maxim have 12 volts on both orange and red/white at same time?
Both sets of coils have 12 volts

If memory serves me correctly, there should always be 12v to the wires when the key is on. The coils will fire when the trigger wire gets grounded then opened by the ignition control.

But I'm sure some one here will correct me if I have it wrong.

    Thanks for the info Wink1018.
Last summer I came back from a 20 minuite ride in our pit and when I shut it off, the ground cable burnt off. There was smoke and sizzling and SCREAMING.
Now there is no Spark, Instrument lights ,Oil level light. no secondary coil reading.
I think it blew all the relays and coils.
The starter solenoid is fine, Signals are ok, Starter button works like a charm. Both primary coils are a strong 2.5 ohms
When I plug the starting circuit cutoff relay into the headlight relay connector I get Insrument lights.
I just bought all relays and diode plug on Ebay for 16.99 and am hoping that will resurect the old girl.
Please check your ground cable so you don't have this trouble !!!!!!
