    Hi,

I have another post in this forum where I'm trying to get insight into major problems for my '81 Seca, however this post addresses a specific question about coils. I have 2 Secas - 1982 XJ750 and a 1981 XJ750 and I ordered a used set of coils from ebay for the '81. They arrived and I tested them according to the manuals I have. I have 2 manuals - the Hayes manual and the Yamaha shop manual. Both of these manuals indicate the 1&4 coil plug caps should have 5K ohms and the 2&3 coil plug caps should have 10K ohms. However, when I measure the 12 plug caps that I have ( 4 from each bike - the '81 Seca, the '82 Seca and the used coils I got from ebay) I see just the opposite. I see that the 1&4 plug caps have 10K ohms and the 2&3 plug caps have 5K ohms.

    Can anybody enlighten me?

    Thanks,
    -steve

Misprint in the FSM. All the caps for the Seca 750 should be 5Kohms.

    From Len's catalog:

    all XJ650, XJ700 non-X, XJ750 non-X, XJ900RK, RL, N/FN, and F models, XJ1100, and all XS1100 inner (#2 & #3) Cylinders:

NOTE: all XJ650, XJ700 non-X, XJ750 non-X, XJ900RK, RL, N/FN, and F models, and XJ1100 models originally used 5K resistance value plug caps on all four cylinders. You can use either the OEM or replacement 5K resistive caps and non-resistive plugs, or 0K non-resistive caps along with 5K resistive plugs in order to maintain the original 5K per plug + cap resistance rating.
