I was wondering if anyone knows if the ignition pick-up coil points are supposed to come in contact with the timing plate when it turns. On my bike there is a slight gap between the tiiming plate as it passes by each point. Is this normal or should they be touching??

They should NOT be touching. They are magnets, and the change in the magnetic field surrounding each pick-up coil as the spinning rotor "tip" passes by them is what triggers them to send a signal to the TCI (which them fires the ignition coils, etc.).

If they ever do touch, for whatever odd reason, then they'll likely become junk rather quickly!
