    Hey everyone,

I used to be on here 2 years ago or so, was lucky enough to have an '82 xj650 seca as my first bike. You guys helped me a ton on keeping it running and had a great deal of fun on it and then sold it to try something else. Picked up an '84 Honda VF750 Interceptor and christ what a bag of issues; it was the year Honda did a bunch of new things all at once and the thing broke down on me 3 times almost solely due to electrical issues.

Bringing me to this season, had no intention of buying a bike and then last weekend I came across an '83 xj750 Midnight Maxim for $500 that needed carb work, went to see it and bought it right away. Everything seems to be in just about immaculate condition, wiring looks all good and overall the bike was taken care of and thanks to you guys I've got all the confidence I need in taking these carbs apart to get it running properly again.

Funny enough, as I'm looking at the bike, the left most carb boot is detached from the airbox lol... I doubt that's the only reason for it to be idling high and intend on cleaning & giving the carbs a synch but the thought of his issue being so trivial is funny.

Well, that's about it. Winter is on its way here in Montreal so this will be something for me to wrench on but it feels good to be back! Let me know if there's anything I should know about midnight maxims, everything seems to be about the same so far!

    Nice bike for the money:)
Basically the same as your seca with different dressing.
Do a full tear down on the carbs and get it running mint.
And the usual brake shoes and brake lines .

Seca and Maxim are a little different. Different tanks, bars, rear wheel, hotter engine set up for the Seca, I think the pegs are mounted different for a more upright position on Maxims. The midnight is a trim and color package on Maxims, making them a little more rare and desirable. Black paint with gold trim and rims, with special badging too. As yours has been cut and painted, most of that rarity is gone, so you're free to do whatever you want to it without any guilt.
Everyone get ready, now the gurus will weigh in and show how rong Matti is. Again. Is there a "No keyboard" option for my phone?
