Hi a question for any one electrically inclined. If my right front and right rear indicators work and the left side does not ( both front and rear) What maybe the cause.
I have checked the bulbs and they are good seems to have power to each bulb on the left but the flasher relay clicks when you turn the indicator switch to the left. Would this indicate ( no pun intended) that the relay is faulty. Any one have any ideas? :(

You say it seems that power is going to the left side but using a multimeter to check would tell you for sure. Since the blubs don't light up and they are good then they aren't recieving power. So the question is where is the power not coming from. Since it is only one side and the relay and flasher unit use the same circuit for either side the most likely culprit is the trun switch.

I'd also do some simple trouble shooting with a Test Light.

See if there is Power coming down to the Female Lead the Bullet to the turn signal plugs into.

Swab-out the Bulb Socket with a trio of Q-Tips soaked in Isopropanol (Isopropal Alcohol)

Also, try turning the Bulb 180-Degrees to see if you have the Bulb forced into the socket incorrectly.

Check the solder on the connections in the handlebar switch, I had the same problem but on the opposite side. The solder had come loose after 27 years, re-soldered no problems now.

    This site is amazing.

Last night my right side turn signals mysteriously stopped working. I'm not very experienced with electrical components, so beyond checking the bulbs and the fuse, I was lost.

As I have for everything XJ related, I turned to this site. I did a search for "turn signal trouble" and the answer appeared:

That was exactly my problem. So, after 5 minutes on this site and 45 min in the garage rebuilding and re-soldering a wire on my turn signal switch, problem solved.

Werther it's learning how to perfectly tune carbs or diagnosing something as simple as loose switch wire, there's nothing the people on this site can't help with.

    Hi Guys

Sorry to jump the thread but I am having similar problems too!

I am actually having problems with my Right side signals, they stopped working a while back and sometimes would work but now have not come on again, so..this is what I have done so far!

visually checked turn signal switch all seems to be ok
Inspected wiring from indicators and also the soldered connectors in the indicator housing and all are good.
Swapped flasher unit for new one
    Swapped bulbs for higher wattage 12v 27 w[originals 12v23w]

So can I check that there is a simple way of checking that is any power going to the right indicators with a Volt meter if so how please?

any other suggestions cos I am stumped!

Re-visit the turn signal switch and make sure the contacts are nice and shiny. It doesn't take much corrosion to break the electrical path.
Had the same problem with the left signals on my Maxim. Took that switch to the "Church Of Clean". Has worked good ever since.

Also make sure that each indicator has a good earth. I,ve found that at least 50% of these problems stem from a bad earth. That can be checked with a multimeter on the internal bulb housing back to the neg. side of your battery., cheers , Murray

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. Mine turned out to be that the wire was rubbed bare where it emerges from the inboard end of the signal stalk. Tiny little spot of insulation gone but apparently enough to short. Quick tape wrap of the wire and it was good to go. Just for kicks, I wrapped the same spot on the other three too.

Hi Murray I am a novice with voltmeters, I have one but not that familiar with it and could you explain a bit more about how I do this thanks.
