    Warning: mechanical newbie

I searched for a thread that might have this insight but didn't find anything so hear goes:

RPM gauge didn't work, tach cable was severed. So I bought a new one.

I'm having a heck of a time getting the thing installed though. It made sense to me to start at the top by the gauge and stick it in, screw the top (or bottom) on, and then work at the bottom

The problem I'm running into is that I can't seem to get enough slack at the bottom to stick into the little hole square hole and keep it in there. It's like I can't get enough pressure to get the thing in the hole at the bottom. What am I missing?

Chack how you have it routed, and that you have the correct length of cable.

It's the full assembly, it's maybe an inch or two longer than the OEM.

So do I need to remove the allen bolt at the bottom by the motor first to get the inner cable to stay in? I can't seem to just shove it in the little hole without it coming out when I put the inner cable in the gauge up top.

22-1/2 inch cable on 2 bikes seca, maxim with an angled ferrul at motor
24 " on maxim with stright connector bulges out over fender should be a little shorter but does not have angle on ferrel

could be there is a piece of cable stuck in the motor side the cable threads on to the motor just like the tach.

could be the ferrel came off the end of the cable and is stuck in the housing on the motor
