Got my bike (1985 XJ 700X) a few years ago now, and it had some repairs needed that I am finally getting to.

When I got the bike, one of the posts that holds the instrument cluster was snapped off by an owner prior to the previous, causing mild chattering on the road. It doesn't look like there is a way to replace just the bolt, or am I not seeing something? would be nice to have it fixed, though it hasn't actually caused any issues, and I can live with it as it has been.

I can try and upload pics if more details are needed. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

Really? 3 months, and not a single thought on this?

Sorry for the potato quality. Tried to get a few angles on it, unfortunately, it's hard to see when in place.

I'm not seeing the snapped bolts. Are you talking about the studs on the mounting bracket, or the screws that mount the bracket to the gauges?

Here is a diagram of how it all fits together.

Are you maybe just missing parts 14, and 31-34?

EDIT: Are you talking about the studs on the mounting bracket (labeled #3) being too short?

The last picture is of part 3 (the good one). Sorry for the confusion, I was using it for reference. On the left side (where the other pics were taken) the bolt barely sticks through the rubber grommet, not leaving enough space to attach the nut.

TL;DR Yes, part 3 is too short.

Ok then. The only repair that I know of (aside from replacing the entire bracket) is to cut the remaining portion of the stud, drill out the top, and weld in a new stud, or just use a thin headed bolt and live with a visible bolt head and a bracket that is a pain to remove. You'll have to remove the mounting bracket from the instruments either way.

I would just replace the bracket. We should have a good used one available if needed.
