Has anyone taken apart an instrument cluster to try and clean the plastic and pull out the metal Gage casing that's press fitted and glued on the inside holding it in place and holding the glass and plastic in place so that you can bead blast , sand , and paint it to restore it I'm looking at 1 I don't want to break it thinking about using a soldering gun & heat on a tip any ideas welcome

Nothing on 750 xj I am going to experiment with a red hot soldering iron and flat tip attached in an L shape to get under the plastic and pull it up and break the seal on the glue I'll let you know I have a spare so it doesn't matter if I destroy it at least I'll know

Be careful with the glass. It isn't safety glass, and will make you bleed if you break it.
Here's the (very) short writeup I did in answer to another member's question:
    Atari disassemble
