ok i know this isn't a common mod for xj's but im doing it.

im using a trailor light converter THIS ONE

because i had it already lol

this method is tried and tested on many forums with no issues

for some reason when i hook it up i get tail lights, brake lights, and if i signal i get all my lights blinking like car hazard lights.

i understand car electrical but im missing something here is there something in the xj wireing that would cause this. it's literally driving me up the wall.

heads up i have already converted to a electronic flasher

    help please

All you need to do is add some Diodes to keep the current from running back to the Turn Signal Self Canceling Module.

Put a Diode on each of the wires that supply the current to each light.
The Diodes prevents current from flowing back to the Module.

They come with Terminal Ends on them in Blister Packs at AutoZone.

    schnarr,
I have the same setup, with the car tailight converter. I had LED turn signals on the back of the bike and I had the same problem as you did (both blinked at the same time) so I converted back to regular filement lights and now they work as they should.
Then after finding out about using the electronic flasher, I went with one and converted back to the LED turn signals and they work like they should now. There are several converters on the market now, so some may still cause the problem, I don't know. The one I have on my XJ is just like yours, but the one I have on my Honda is one of the later model designs, but works like it should. PD

and what side of the light converter do i put the diode signal wires in or out?

The ones at AutoZone are packaged for Automotive use. I don't have any idea what they are rated.

I'm sure the ones that you can get at RadioShack would do the trick. Just tell the Clerk you're using them for current on the Bike.

We don't have Radio Shack anymore either lol

Try The Source, look for 4 or 6 amp rectifier diodes, I used on to replace a fried diode on my 400

Schnarr, could you post details/outline of what it is you are doing? It sounds interesting.

if i can make it work i will for sure post pics and some sort of write up.

if i can't make it work, i will post pictures of a xj on fire

for a quick run down im building my own integrated tail light, i cannot stand the look of the signals on the back of an xj they are hideous.

so because the seca has 2 dual filament bulds it the tail/brake light housing this is possible

you basically wire in a tail light convertor
    __________
    left signal wire______| trailor light|____Left turn/Stop
    stop (bright) wire____| convertor |
    right signal wire_____| BOX |_____Right turn/stop
    |_________|

the issue with this sometimes is the lights get dim and hard to see
to resolve this im using a powered convertor box its more expansive but should provide adequate power

my first test was to do it with relays but about 6 hours into that i gave up and switched to this box thinking i'd be golden, as soon as i get a chance im going to try the diodes and see what happens

Well with diode's still no luck it stopped it from feeding back to the front signals but still fed into the opposite rear signal.

but it worked perfect when my battery was almost deal lol as soon as i charged the battery it was back to flashing both back signals unless i put the break on then it worked properly

im pretty much giving up now unless there is any other ideas out there

Those are some very interesting problems you are having. Have you tried a cheap run of the mill converter yet by any chance? I have converted my 81 XJ650 and also a 89 ZX600. I used cheap 3 - 2 converters and have not had any problems converter. Another idea also is don't use the ground that is coming out of the converter you have. Run new grounds either to the frame or to the battery. Bad grounds can cause really really strange problems sometimes. Hope something here helps and good luck.
