Interchangeable Muffler

    Hi everyone,

    My friend and I bought a '82 XJ750 RK; PO thought it would be cool and a good sound to have short pipes as mufflers instead of the original ones.
    Because of the difficulty finding (and they are expensive) of stock mufflers my question is: are the mufflers for a XJ750 interchangeable with the ones from a XJ550?
    Please let me know if that would work or sources where we might go and find 'cheaper' ones

    are you looking at just the muffler, or headers and muffler?

    Headers are not interchangeable. mufflers, pretty much anything will fit, though some creative engineering is usually necessary

    just mufflers

    headers seem o.k.; haven'y taken a closer look at the collector box
    collector box on XJ750 same as on XJ550

    yea... if you are going from the collector box back, you can really do anything. I've seen anything and everything from sportster, to supertrapp, to race bike mufflers, to everything in between.... The collector box keeps the backpressure and minimizes re-jetting nightmares.

    I'm running XJ650 mufflers on my 750. They fit the same.
