I have an 81 650 and the one thing i don't like is the seat. I was looking at an 85 650 and noticed the frame looked very similar to my 81 and the seat was a little more modern. Does any body know if these seats are interchangeable or what other years could also be used?

    Thanks Guys

Anything that will fit. You can't go by part numbers (well ok sometimes you can...) Tape measure time (or calipers.)

I just bought a solo seat for a Harley from Jireh Cycles for $50 that seems to be almost made for my '80 650. Will probably have to pad it a bit more after some initial wear in...but I can live with that.

How much customizing did you have to do? Did you have to cut the seat pan or change the rear fender on the bike and such. I've come a long ways with what i can do myself on my bike but fabricating pieces off other bikes to work on mine would be quite a task for me.

yeah, '81s and '82s have the same seat, i'm looking for a more modern type seat. I don't like the gigantic one piece. The seats most bikes nowadays have the narrower, small rise for a passenger and then the wide deeper seat for the driver. The 85 maxim 650 has this type but, i'm wondering if they are interchangeable in anyway.

I'm guessing you're talking about a '85 Maxim 700/750. If so, then no, the seats are not interchangeable without modification.
