irratic running trottle hanging on and miss firring

    i have stripped and cleaned carbs no holes in diaphrams but worn i have a lack of top end power bike rev,s ok in neutal but on the move will not rev above 6000 rpm in top gear have sidecar on bike but think it should perform better than it is think me cdi is duff any help folks its got me head batterd

    Hello. My name is James nice of you to drop by. Can you telll us more about yourself and your bike - there are many XJ variants you see.

    Electronic problems are rare -if it runs I guess thats OK. No CDI on these bikes by the way.
    TCI is what they have - different animal altogether. My first move would be compression test to see if the bike is still in decent fettle - or shagged out. Then it's a case of checking valve clearances (tappets)

    More background wil help the experts analyse the problem. Punctuation is also a great bonus.

    hi, james we have had our xj650 three years now.Its a uk model 1981 frame number starts with 4ko.I checked valves when i replaced the worn cam chain,everything in good order.Can you tell me the reading i need on comp test ie high n low.what,s classed as a good reading many thanks ian
