ok, i'm not sure if it has to do with the weather or if i'm just retarded and can't figure out what's going on, i had only gotten 1.5 miles from home on my maxim 650 and it stalled out, took another 15 minutes to start again, and riding it home i had to have the choke 1/4 engaged. this is after letting it warm up for around 15 minutes it's 30 degrees out side and the maxim is my only transportation at the moment, help please

I'd suggest it is a fuel issue, perhaps a blocked filter or a problem causing the petcock not to open fully.
My petcock does not always operate correctly so I run it on "Pri" (Making sure to switch back to "on" when I stop.)

I have read the vent in the gas tank cap can become blocked - again restricting the fuel.

When you take off the two screws on the underside of the cap take off each part and remember their order. when they come off one of the holes has a ball in it. Metric- careful-stuff a rag in the bung first so nothin falls in.
Oh yeah. Remove the ball and blow through to check if clear.

And be very careful when doing that! That housing contains the spring-loaded "latching ears (hooks)" and they can be a bit of a mystery as to how they go back together if they just pop out everywhere into a pile on the workbench.......

While you're that far in there, you might as well replace the o-rings and lube the lock cylinder mechanism.........

Inspect the large, round rubber gasket on the underside of the cap for cracks, splits, deterioration, and if noted, replace it; otherwise you'll be sniffing fuel fumes all the time!

Oh, you definitely oughtta... it's FUN!

    Len's right about this too:

The fuel cap gasket dries out/gets hard over 25+ years and will eventually start to seep. You can wait to rebuild your gas cap until then, or do it when you have some "down time" as a preventive measure. It's not all that difficult, it does pay to disassemble it carefully and note the position of the springs and plungers as it comes apart.

Spend the $20 and the hour now, save a lot of headaches in the future.
